Wintery Things

Hope everyone is staying warm out there! We're having an uncharacteristically long wintery storm...the news stations refer to it as, "The Arctic Blast." While I find that slightly on the extreme side, it has been cold and snowy! It's beautiful and definitely making it feel more like Christmas!

Christmas Tree

We spent about 2 hours at the tree farm trying to find the perfect one....I think there were just too many trees to choose from so it was hard to decide!

We were losing daylight and it was starting to rain....so we settled on this one. Chris cut it down, he's such a man. :)

We brought it home on the roof of my car. I have no idea what we were thinking but we made it! After finding the right place for it (we rearranged the living room about 5 times, and ended up sticking with our original layouot) we hung the most important ornament..... GO VIKES!

Tada...

Last Weekend

We went wine tasting in the beautiful Willamette Valley last weekend. Every Thanksgiving and Memorial Day weekends all of the wineries have big shin digs with live music, gourmet food and of course amazing wine-including some exclusive tastings just for the weekend. We went with our lovely friends and neighbors, Ryan and Allison.

I am currently in the middle of the end of the term rush but am surviving. One more test to go and I'm free until '09! '09 seems so far away to me still but I'm sure it will be here along with a fun filled winter term sooner than I expect.

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

The Wall and The Pan

Last week was a rough one for these Slowiks as we met our match: the wall and the pan.

On early Monday morning, the 10th, I got up to use the restroom at 6am and decided against turning on the light in the bathroom since my eyes are horrible at adjusting from full light to none at all. Apparently I was a little too confident with my walking skills, especially with my walking in the dark skills, and as I was preparing to exit the bathroom (with my hands out in front of me to feel for obstacles) I apparently missed a huge obstacle and ran my face right into the door jam. Here's a picture of the door jam in our bathroom.

And here's a picture of my face after the incident (note the swollen purple upper bridge of my nose).

So the door jam proved to be Chris' downfall.

___________

Fast-forward to that Tuesday evening, the 12th, when we had our neighbors Dave, Flavia, and their daughter Viva over for dinner. Trista was cooking Chicken with White Wine Sauce Pasta for the occasion. After cooking the chicken in the skillet in the oven, she grabbed the pan's handle without a pot holder on accident. Our pans have metal handles that get very hot when left in a 400 degree oven, go figure. Here's a picture of the pan.

And here's a picture of Trista's poor hand after not getting any sleep that night.

So the pan proved to be Trista's downfall.

Vikings vs. Packers

One of the biggest rivals in the NFL is the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers, with Trista being from Minnesota we couldn't miss out on watching this pivotal game. Since we don't pay the extra billion dollars a year for NFL Sunday Ticket we had to go to a local watering hole, Lil' Cooperstown Bar and Grill, to watch this historic game.

This was our first time at Lil' Cooperstown and we were quite pleased with the establishment... very clean, friendly staff, and great drink and food selection. We weren't, however, pleased with the Packers fan who sat behind us and would not keep his mouth shut during the entire game. I'll have to give him a slight break because I know Packer's fans generally have a lower IQ - it's science, you can't argue with it.

We were so amused by some of the things this guy was saying that I took notes on my cell phone of his more popular rants. While reading these, picture a man in his early to mid 40's, receding hairline with slight balding, gray Packers sweatshirt, sitting by himself, and as Trista noticed, no wedding ring (surprise!). Also note that most of these were repeated multiple times with the pitch gradually increasing.
  • Take it to the house!
  • Stuff it!
  • Put IT AWAY with the touchdown!
  • Baby Dish-up! (Although I still think he was saying 'Baby Bishop'!)
  • Go GET HIM!! Send some PRESSURE!
  • BIG RETURN, BIG RETURN, BIG RETURN!! (during a punt return)
  • We're playing with fire RIGHT HERE
  • and the grand finally came after Adrian Peterson's touch down late in the 4th quarter that gave the Vikings a one point lead, he said: Mike McCarthy, do not play chicken crap football right here!
We were going to try and take a picture of this guy but our intent would have been too obvious.

Vacay 2008 part I

So, I have been super busy with work and clinical this last week and haven't really done anything too exciting so I thought I'd back post and show you some pics from our cruise/Disneyland/LA trip. Here are some faves from the cruise. We left from LA, went to Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas. We were supposed to stop in Mazatlan too but due to a tropical storm/hurricane we got to spend 2 days in PV instead! It was so much fun!

Missing Katie of course, but here is David, Chris and I, Andrea and Roshan...our cruising buddies...

She said yes!!! David and Katie are getting married!

Katie and I both won big in the casino on board the ship! Katie won the jackpot though, so she gets a pic posted!

We celebrated our 3rd anniversary in Puerto Vallarta

And had lots of DAY PARTIES!!!!

Turning 29

So tomorrow, the 25th, I'm turning 29 years old. It's crazy because when you're younger you think about where you'll be and what you'll be doing at certian points in your life, I think turning 30 is a common one. I'll be turning 30 next year and still have no idea what I'll be doing then. I do know it's taken me 29 years to:
-Get married to the love of my life
-Complete my bachelor's degree
-Buy a house
-Create a blog
-Buy a Chihuahua (never thought I'd own one, but I love her so much)

So, we'll just see what gets added to this list in the next year.

Better Late Than Never

We did a big yard (if you can call it a yard...so small!) project this summer! We poured concrete, built flower beds and Chris designed and built a pergola. I think it's beautiful and we did a lot with the space we have!

Cooper Mountain Vineyards

We enjoy visiting and tasting at local wineries and for some crazy reason just discovered that the winery up the street is incredible! We had lunch with our friend Melissa on Saturday and it was a perfect day. Cooper Mountain Vineyards is an organic and biodynamic winery with some of the world's best pinot noir. Here are some lovely photos taken by Chris.

The Slowik's Have a Blog!
